Armenia, one of the cradles of world civilization, is known for its fascinating ancient cities, architecture and archeological sites. The capital Yerevan is one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world. Other tourist attractions in Armenia include the 13th century Geghard Monastery (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the Garni Roman Temple, Cathedral of St Gregory the Illuminator in Echmiadzin, the 3rd century capital of Armenia, and the 10th century monasteries of Haghpat and Sanakin, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Other tourist attractions include the stunning Lake Sevan, Mother Armenia Statue, Tatev Monastery, and the Genocide Memorial on Tsitsernakaberd Hills.

Many airlines operate flights to Yerevan from Europe, the Middle East and Russia. Armavia Airlines and Aeroflot operate daily flights from Armenia to Moscow. KLM and British Airways also offer services. There are good rail and road links between Armenia and neighboring Georgia and Iran. There is also a weekly bus service to Istanbul and Moscow.
